In time for The Masters week, we have updated the profile of Cavendish golf course, predecessor design to the Augusta National course by UK golf course architect, Dr Alister MacKenzie:
Jonathan has been a playing member at Cavendish Golf Club since 2010. Since 2011 he has been on the Greens Committee and has been advising the club on course improvements, including drainage works, bunker remodelling and tee reconstruction. A course masterplan was prepared in 2016 with a view to continuing these improvements, aiming for completion in 2025, the year of the Club’s centenary.  … View here

Howley Hall Golf Club – updated profile on Gaunt Golf Design website

Howley Hall Golf Club, West Yorkshire, UK

Gaunt Golf Design has recently completed a total bunker renovation at Howley Hall GC, south of Leeds. Howley Hall was founded in 1900, and Dr Alister MacKenzie advised on upgrades to the club’s course in 1913. Jonathan Gaunt says: “The property is attractive – quite moorland-like in many ways, with a fair bit of heather and wispy fescue. As with so many courses of its era, it had become rather choked by trees, but the club has been systematically thinning them for several years, with good results.”

Caddington Golf Club – updated profile on Gaunt Golf Design website

The new nine hole course extension, within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is being built by McGee Construction Group, based in North London. The golf course is almost ready to reopen after a major redesign at the hands of Jonathan Gaunt.

Whittington Heath Golf Club wins Planning Consent for HS2 driven rebuild

Aerial visulisation of new design

Whittington Heath Golf Club, in Staffordshire, England, has announced that it has been granted planning permission for a set of works that will allow the club to continue operation when the HS2 high speed railway line is built. The club had been under threat as the route for HS2, which will link London with the north of England, passes straight through the clubhouse and several golf holes.

Just in case anyone has missed it! Gaunt Golf Design Limited has been in business 10 years (since March 2006). We’ve had some ups – working throughout Europe, in USA, North Africa and South America – and downs – deepest recession on record – but, we’re looking forward to a very busy future, with current projects in UK, Czech Republic and Croatia. So, an interesting journey so far! Thanks to everyone for the kind “birthday” messages!

Howley Hall Golf Club to host historic Leeds Cup (Gaunt Golf Design Project)

February 8th, 2016

Professional golf’s oldest trophy, the iconic Leeds Cup inaugurated in 1902, will be staged at Howley Hall on August 9-11.

The club, situated in Morley on the outskirts of the city, is certain to attract the leading PGA North players to the 36-hole tournament which will be preceded by a pro-am.

An ambitious course improvement programme has transformed the already challenging lay-out and is expected to be ready for play before the season gets under way.
