Royal Golf Oued Fes, Fes, Morocco

New 18-hole golf course – development by Moroccan property company, MEDZ

Construction work at Royal Golf Oued Fes continues: there are 5 holes remaining to be completed this year. Weather conditions over winter 2009/2010 have been very wet, which brought construction work to a standstill.

Working with project managers Chris Johnson and Tom Sedlmeier, we’ve experienced some really difficult working conditions on site – due mainly to the fact that the course is being built on a floodplain. Since starting construction work in November 2007 we have worked through two extremely wet winters. The meltwater from the snow in the Middle Atlas mountains eventually makes its way to the Oued Fes, which, flows through the centre of the resort site.

At the same time as building the golf course, the developer – MEDZ – has installed a new major sewage/storm-water drainage system (2 metre diameter concrete pipe) which will now take the floodwater to the south of the Palace of King Mohammed VI. They have also finished removing 2 km length of high voltage electric cables – enabling us to complete construction works on hole #6.

Construction work is still underway and expected to be completed by the end of 2010.

GGD rated 8th “Best Value” Golf Course Architects by Golf Inc.

April 7th, 2010

Golf Inc. magazine has identified its first-ever list of the “Best Value” golf course architects and Gaunt Golf Design has been rated ‘8th’ in their ‘Top Ten’.

The magazine requested average fees and number of recent projects from all active architects in the world. It received information from 120 architects, of which, 63 provided average fee data.

The magazine’s editors then rated each architect for value, based on fee price and quality of recent work. Golf course architects who charged more than US$500,000 (for an 18-hole course) were not considered.

New 9-hole extension to existing 18-hole course – owned and operated by Caddington Golf Club Limited

Following a complicated planning application, consent was finally granted for this development by South Bedfordshire District Council in November 2009.

To achieve planning permission for a landfill project within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty was unprecedented. We achieved this using clearly illustrated design proposals and high quality digital photomontages, showing how sympathetically the new golf course extension would be integrated into the rolling Chiltern landscape.

We have proposed a new “open-access” 9-hole short course, improvements to the practice facilities and 6 new holes on the existing 18-hole course.

We have now received the Landfill Exemption Licence from the Environment Agency (WSP Group advised on this matter). Landfilling is scheduled to commence in Spring 2010 and is expected to continue for at least 3 years.

The project will be carefully managed and construction co-ordinated by specialist contractors, McGee’s, under the watchful eye of Gaunt Golf Design.
