Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Howley Hall Golf Club, West Yorkshire, UK

Jonathan Gaunt says: “The property is attractive – quite moorland-like in many ways, with a fair bit of heather and wispy fescue. As with so many courses of its era, it had become rather choked by trees, but the club has been systematically thinning them for several years, with good results.”

Play Britain’s newest golf course at Ramside Hall Hotel – designed by Jonathan Gaunt of Gaunt Golf Design

Monday, January 13th, 2014

Today’s Golfer’s Guide to make golf more ‘Memorable’ in 2014 – No 1 recommendation – Ramside Hall Hotel in County Durham – the only 18-hole golf course opening in Britain during 2014 – the Cathedral Course at Ramside Hall – a 7,200 yard par 72.

“We’re scheduled to open nine holes in July and the other nine in September,” says course designer Jonathan Gaunt. “Several holes are set on a hilltop, so it is on some quite exposed landscape at times, but some of the holes are stunning and the views are exceptional – you can see the Angel of the North from the 15th tee and Durham Cathedral from the 16th.”  There are several tough par 4s and numerous water hazards, but the hole everyone will remember is the par-3 12th. “It’s been likened to the 12th at Augusta.”
