Joint collaboration with Donald Steel on an 18-hole reconstruction of an Ellis Maples design.

Here, on our first project collaboration, Donald Steel was appointed to prepare a complete renovation proposal for the Ellis Maples course, originally designed back in the early 1960’s.

This project comprises an upgrade of all features of this undulating course, set within mature woodland, including all tees complexes, fairway landing areas, bunkers and green complexes. It also includes the development of substantial “state-of-the-art” practice facilities, with a 400 yard long double-tee platform practice range with targets.

Following a lengthy masterplanning stage, which included the preparation of some stunning computer-generated images and videos, Greensboro CC has now given the go-ahead to prepare the detailed design and earthworks drawings.

The prospect is exciting – as the new design takes advantage of hidden water features and golf design opportunities that had previously been overlooked, due to financial constraints and the limitations of the construction machinery 40 years ago.

Construction work is planned to proceed in Autumn/Fall 2008 with an opening date in late 2009, the centenary year of Greensboro CC.
