Linden Hall Hotel and Golf Club

"Many people have said that the par 3s and par 5s make a course, since they are the ones you remember most. If that is true, Linden Hall designed by Jonathan Gaunt, will be etched on your memory for a long time."

Linden Hall Hotel and Golf Club, UK

Linden Hall provided Jonathan Gaunt with the opportunity to create something really unique. Set in historic parkland surrounding the 18th century mansion house, now a 50-bed hotel and spa owned by Macdonald Hotels Group.

The course plays through a dramatic undulating landscape, home to a wealth of wildlife including roe deer and red squirrel, and punctuated with monkey puzzle trees, ancient oaks, and elegant water features.

This beautiful and exciting course measures 6850 yards off the back markers and is exhilarating to play with views toward Coquet Island in the North Sea and the Cheviot Hills to the North West.

The course opened for play in May 1997 to rapturous applause and a personal visit by
HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York.

"You'll go a long way, too, to find a superior 18th hole, and a trio of other par-4s would grace any course. This all enhances a site of exceptional beauty, a mixture of mature woodland, ancient parkland and rolling countryside".
- Barry Ward, Golf Monthly.

Peugeot Golf Guide – Europe’s Top 1000 Golf Courses

It was the superb hotel of the same name that added this 18-hole course to its estate. The owners love the end result, quite rightly so, and they have sensitively developed the magnificent historical manor. They wanted a course that was playable by all, always an extremely difficult task but one that Jonathan Gaunt managed to achieve. This is a fair course that you can get to grips with right away, as the thick rough and rather frequent hazards (ditches and lakes) only penalise the truly wayward shot. Only two holes really call for high pitching shots, and even then the distances involved are short. However, the constant presence of water might scare off the higher-handicappers. Despite the course’s relatively tender age, greenkeeping is excellent on a site where everything has been done so very professionally. Pleasant to play, challenging from the back tees and set in a very peaceful part of the country where there is a lot do and see, Linden Hall is one of the excellent surprises to have emerged in the past dozen or so years.
