Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club, UK

Ramside Hall was the largest golf development in the North-East of England when it opened in April 1995. The course was designed, with big undulating greens and numerous strategically placed lakes set in historic parkland surrounding a 100-bed hotel.

The grounds currently feature an 18-hole course of over 6800 yards, a 9-hole course at 3000 yards and a 300-yard long driving range. These facilities will shortly be extended to 36 holes.

Golf Monthly - HSBC Regional Rankings 2006

Within the four criteria assessed by Golf Monthly panel, Ramside GC scored top marks in all categories:

1. Quality of test and design
“A tough test from all coloured tees, especially the whites and blue championship tees.

The course requires length and accuracy off the tees and good course management to avoid water and strategically placed sand trips.
Greens are undulating and tricky to read, but very true”.

2. Visual appeal and enjoyment
“An attractive course with panoramic views of the Durham countryside.

It has appealing visual features built into the hazards, especially the fountain at the very picturesque par-3, 7th hole”.

3. Presentation
“The course was set up magnificently with beautifully manicured fairways, well-raked bunkers, good quality tee boxes and most importantly, immaculate greens”.

4. Ambience
“A very welcoming modern clubhouse with superb facilities (exceptional showers!), the staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful – overall a very good ambience”.
