Silkstone Golf Club, UK
This project involved the redevelopment of the existing 18-hole course at Silkstone Golf Club in South Yorkshire. The work comprised the construction of 7 new holes on dramatically undulating farmland, adjacent to the existing 18-hole course, along with the remodelling of a further four holes to eradicate historic safety problems and steep climbs.
The new 18-hole layout, designed by Jonathan Gaunt, overcame problems associated with public footpaths and bridleways, badger setts, and archaeological artefacts in the form of “a mediaeval ridge and furrow” farming system. The new course measures 6648 yards with a par of 73. Arguably, it will have some of the most challenging golf holes in Yorkshire. Opened for play June 2008.
