Jonathan Gaunt BA (Hons), Diploma LA, Diploma GCA (EIGCA)
Director and Senior Golf Course Architect
Responsible for over thirty high quality and distinctive golf courses built since 1987, Jonathan has earned a considerable reputation for imaginative and challenging golf course design.
After securing a BA (Hons) degree in Landscape Architecture from Leeds, Jonathan began his career as a Landscape Architect with Travers Morgan Engineers in London, designing and supervising landscaping for new road schemes for the Highways Agency.
Jonathan set his sights set on becoming a golf course architect at an early age and soon became a proficient golfer (handicap 6). He began work as a Golf Construction Site Manager for Brian D. Pierson Golf Course Contractors Ltd. Here, his responsibilities included on-site contract supervision on courses such as St. Andrews (Jubilee Course), St. George’s Hill, Surrey and Goodwood Golf Club, West Sussex.
At the age of 25, Jonathan designed his first golf course - the 27-hole Chesfield Downs Family Golf Centre in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Then, having established his own practice, he went on to design another 17 new golf courses including Linden Hall, Northumberland, which was voted amongst the top 10 new courses in the UK by Golf World in 1998.
Between 1998 and 2006 Jonathan joined forces with and established G&M Ltd, creating some 25 new courses across Europe; and he is now the Managing Director of Gaunt Golf Design Ltd.
Current Gaunt Golf Design projects include courses in the UK, Macedonia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Poland and Morocco ranging from ‘pay-and-play’ golf courses to major tourism-related residential/leisure and resort developments in arid regions. Jonathan’s responsibilities include the management of an ever-expanding golf course architecture practice along with a broad network of expert associates, consultants and project managers.
