Breinholtgård is considered one of the best courses in Denmark, with 27 holes made up of 3 individual 9-hole courses, and a challenging 9-hole par 3 course. It was Jonathan’s first golf course design in Denmark, which he worked on with local building architect, Michael Møller.
This beautiful site, sandy and free-draining with heather in the rough, and set in pine and oak forest, is, on certain holes, reminiscent of some of the classic UK heathland courses, such as Swinley Forest or Sunningdale. The presence of Viking Graves on part of the site suggests an historic importance to the place itself, adding to the atmosphere.
There are dramatic changes in level on this course, and this varied topography has allowed for an interesting and exciting routing of the holes. With the old Danish farm house restored and used for the clubhouse, it makes a striking first impression, and Breinholtgård celebrated its 25th anniversary in August 2017. The course was built by Danish contractor, Superfos, and this collaboration resulted in a golf course that all involved could be rightly proud of.
