The golf course at Moor Allerton GC is unique, in that it is the only course in the UK designed by Robert Trent Jones snr., one of the most influential American golf course architects of his era. The course was designed as 27 holes in three distinct loops of nine in 220 acres of undulating Yorkshire countryside. It is characteristic of Jones’s design with large contoured greens, large teeing areas, boldly shaped bunkers and numerous strategically placed water hazards.
Over a period of 40 years Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed or modified more than 500 courses world-wide, including Valderrama, Firestone, Spyglass Hill and Sotogrande. The course has hosted many professional and amateur tournaments since its foundation and many famous names have played here, including Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Tom Weiskopf and Tony Jacklin.
Some of the original features had been lost in the 1990’s and 2000’s, but the club is now looking forward to being considered one of the top venues in the North of England. Our remodelling work has involved bringing back some of the characteristics of Jones’s original design, whilst being sympathetic to the management and operation of a modern golf course. Lake and bunker reconstruction work has already been undertaken on holes #14, #17 and #27 to a high standard by C&C Golfscapes.
