Prague City Golf Vinoř is in the northeast suburbs of Prague (Vinoř ), capital of Czechia. It is the closest large-scale golf resort to the city centre and is owned by a private company based in central Prague. The 27-hole course and practice facilities have been designed by Gaunt Golf Design.
The site is, effectively, one large field of 100 hectares, surrounded by two parks. There are also two small historic chapels on the golf course, which commemorate the ”Saint Wenceslaus route”, built in 17th century in honour of Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia and Patron of Czech, who was assassinated in 935, purportedly in a plot by his own brother, Boleslav the Cruel.
The undulating site has been transformed into a thrilling resort, incorporating an 18-hole course of 6460 metres, a 9-hole academy course of 2650 metres, a 300 metres-length driving range, short game academy area, children’s golf zone, clubhouse with accommodation, greenkeeper’s technical facility and parking for 200 cars. The style of the golf course is British, with a European flavour – with large, subtly-contoured greens, wide fairways (fully irrigated), strategically-placed bunkers, waste hazards, fescue seed-head roughs and water features.
Prague City Golf Vinoř, is placing a big emphasis on environmental aspects as a theme for the development. Because the site is so open and exposed, a comprehensive tree, shrub and native grassland planting scheme has been implemented, to further enhance the course design, focussing views on golf course features inside the site and on architectural features in the distance, such as church spires and castles and then Mount Ríp on the north horizon in the Czech central highlands.
On certain holes, marsh and wetland areas have been created, connected with strategically-located lakes. The irrigation of the golf course is being provided with sustainable, treated/recycled water from Prague City.
Earthworks began on site in late 2015 and the construction work was completed by All Golf Services in 2019. The courses opened for full play in 2023.
