Selby Golf Club unveils plans for new range and short course

Selby Golf Club – bunker remodellingAt Selby GC in North Yorkshire, Gaunt Golf Design worked with John Greasley Ltd on a total bunker remodelling project. The course, on sandy ground and free-draining course, was originally designed in the 1930’s by Fred Hawtree & John H Taylor – and was later modified by Donald Steel in the 1990’s to accommodate a new road scheme.The bunker remodelling project was undertaken between 2020 and 2023 and the finished result has transformed the course, taking it onto another level in terms of both maintainability and playability. The new bunkers are strategically positioned and most importantly, in view from the tees, and from fairways looking into greens.

Greasley’s undertook all course works under GGD’s supervision. During construction our work involved setting out all bunkers, swales, run-offs and surrounds reshaping, supervision of shapers, marking out/definition of sand lines and signing off all construction work. The project was split into 3 phases and completed in Spring 2023 and all bunkers are now in play.

In Spring 2024, the driving range project starts and is being funded through imported inert soils. The contractor for this project is Booth Ventures and we will continue to oversee this work through to completion in 2025/26.
