Who we are

GOLF COURSE ARCHITECTS

At Gaunt Golf Design we design and masterplan high profile tourist resorts and golf courses for hotels, property development companies, private members clubs, proprietary (pay and play) and council owned (municipal) courses.

Working with a trusted network of specialists in surveying, agronomy, ecology, engineering, irrigation, drainage and finance, we go through the CAD design process to ensure the golf course design will work and is within budget, before committing the client to unnecessary expense.

Specialist Advice

Jonathan Gaunt has advised more than 220 existing golf clubs throughout Europe. He has undertaken numerous course audits, reviews and restoration work at courses originally designed by some of the greatest golf course architects of their era, for example, Harry Colt, Alister MacKenzie, Tom Simpson, John Abercromby, James Braid or Willie Park jnr..

Understanding Needs

At many courses where Jonathan has advised it is possible to see excellent examples of this specialist kind of sympathetic restoration work – taking into account the original architect’s design intentions, whilst remaining focused upon the needs of modern players.

Meeting Challenges

All courses present different design challenges – as they often have very different styles – some more “natural-looking”, whereas others are more “maintained” and sharp-edged. Many of the characteristics of the original design can be seen in old aerial black and white photographs on the walls of the clubhouse or in the club’s archives – they provide excellent reference points before we undertake our design work.
